Dignity in Dying

Supporting Progressive Thought Leadership

Dignity in Dying believes that everybody has the right to a good death; including the option of assisted dying for terminally ill, mentally competent adults. Dignity in Dying is a national campaign and membership organization, campaigning for change across the UK.

The Banga Trust understands that most people have strong wishes about what they want their end-of-life to be like, often based on their values, culture, beliefs, and health status, but currently the gap between what people want, and their experiences is vast.

The Trust has provided funding to Dignity in Dying’s campaign for greater choice at the end of life, as well as seed-funding for its sister charity, Compassion in Dying’s public health campaign to increase knowledge and shift attitudes and behaviours around the treatment decisions people often face as they approach the end of life.

The funding has supported targeted political advocacy: equipping MPs, Peers, and MSPs with compelling evidence and personal stories, holding them accountable to their constituents, colleagues and members of the public, and countering misinformation respectfully, with evidence.

The Trust’s seed-funding for Compassion in Dying’s public health campaign will help to: establish a project group of people and organisations who will collaborate to run and deliver the campaign; deliver initial audience insight research; develop an understanding of the behaviour of specific audiences, and ensure minoritised community members form part of the programme’s leadership from the outset.

The Trust understands that Compassion in Dying is best placed to support individuals to bridge that gap under the current law, and that Dignity in Dying is leading the case for more safe and compassionate choice at the end of life.
